Default Rookie(No Elite) 55 Monk Build

I was bored and decided to try my hand at making a 55 Monk build. However when I started looking at them I realized I didn't have any of the Elites needed. So I decided to try and make a build that didn't require any instead.

Here is what I came up with:

Monk/Mesmer

Skills
~Protective Spirit - Damage Protection
~Healing Breeze - Health Regeneration
~Guardian - Emergency Defense
~Mantra of Resolve - Interrupt Defense
~Arcane Echo - Skill Dupe
~Symbol of Wrath - Damage Dealer
~Balthazar's Spirit - Energy Management
~Mending - Health Regeneration

Attributes
~Inspiration Magic - 5
~Healing Prayers - 4 + 4
~Smiting Prayers - 12 + 3
~Protection Prayers - 9 + 3
~Divine Flavor - 0 + 3

Like I said before this is geared more towards the rookie/noob monk who just wants to give 55 monking a try before fully jumping into it. I have only tried this on trolls and it works perfect for farming them.

Please feel free to tell me what you think, keeping in mind once again that this is not meant to be a elite 55 monk...

Im Pretty Sure Symbol Of Wrath Scatters Enemys As It Effects As Aoe Damage.. So It'd Either Take Weeks 2 Kill Anything Or not Work Atall...
Shield Of Judjment Really Isnt Hard 2 Capture.

What campaigns do you have? Even without an Elite you can run a decent 55 depending on the area/mobs you are facing.

A few suggestions:

Damage reduction skills: Shielding Hands and Shield of Absorption work wonders on a 55. If you aren't facing health degen (Conditions / Hexes) then these 2 skills can reduce the damage you take to 0, negating the need for Healing Breeze/Mending which frees up a skill slot. Personally, I'd drop Mending because it's a maintained enchantment and only gives you +3 HP regen, the +7 HP regen from Healing Breeze should be enough to keep you covered.

Damage skills: You need more than just Symbol of Wrath, and if you're using Arcane Echo to copy Symbol of Wrath, you're wasting time and 15e when you could just bring Kirin's Wrath (Factions copy of Symbol) in its place.

So that I don't completely destroy your build (I'd rather work with what I've been given, not completely change it - that way you are more likely to understand the changes) here's what I would suggest:

Monk/Mesmer

Healing Prayers: 4+1+3
Smiting Prayers: 12+3
Protection Prayers: 9+3
Divine Favor: 0+3
Inspiration Magic: 5

Mantra of Resolve - interrupt counter
Channeling - energy management
Protective Spirit - Damage Protection
Healing Breeze - Health Regeneration
Shielding Hands - Damage Reduction + Heal when it ends
Symbol of Wrath - Damage Dealer
Holy Strike - Damage Dealer
Balthazar's Spirit - Energy Management

*Channeling will keep you rolling in energy, and you already invested in Inspiration for Mantra of Resolve to help counter interruption.
*Prot Spirit is a must have, of course.
*Healing Breeze helps counter HP degen/heal if you don't want to use SH
*Shielding Hands will reduce incoming damage (you should only be taking 5 dmg/attack or spell anyways, this will knock it to 0) and heals you when it ends.
*Symbol of Wrath is still there; since you seem to be comfortable with it, I'll leave it there
*Holy Strike is cheap, spammable damage from Smiting, and with Channeling you should never have a problem with energy

This is not the most optimal build, but I didn't want to completely tear apart the build that you presented. This should work just fine. If you have any more questions, let us know!

Also, I only included Core/Prophecies skills, since you didn't say which campaigns you have/don't have and all the skills you listed were Proph/Core.

Hope this helps!

uhm..you can try to go /N and bring insidious parasite (which also is a good healing, but it's not aoe), desecrate/defile enchantments, and mark of pain (using a sword to hit the hexed mob), but pay attention that mark of pain causes a lot of scatter, so if you now how to put mobs against a wall to make them not move it's better.

You can try with degeneration using suffering, poisoned heart w/ plague touch and radiation field, although degeneration seems a bit slow (maybe you can use well of silence instead of poisoned heart and plague touch, after you killed the first mob with IP).

Also necrosis works well as a single-target damaging skill, after having used IP. I can think also about signet of corruption for aoe damage (like desecrate ench.) and energy management.

Well, i'm sure there are a lot of different builds you can try. Good luck finding a fun one^^

Shielding hands would be a much better "emergency spell", it will reduce all your damage to zero. If u have to use symbol or wrath, which btw is terrible, try using frozen burst with it so stuff stays in it longer.

Axe might work, bring cyclone axe and strength of honor, along with vigorous spirit for heals.

Another option is Dark Aura, it can be tricky tho because u sac health and u have to time it so it wont scatter, make sure u dont activate it more than once every 3 seconds.

One of my favorites for certain areas is fire magic, it actually works really well. Use mark of rodgort, and any good aoe, or pbaoe fire spells u have, ie pheonix, inferno, flame burst.

Other ppls suggestions would work too.

yeah your build is horrible... symbol of wrath is okay and it scatters... also Guardian is not a good skill in 55... Shielding Hands would be so much better.

OK so I modified the build a bit based off of your guys suggestions.

Replaced Symbol of Wrath with Shield of Judgment which does deal a lot more damage. Just had to get off my lazy ass and go cap it with hench which took awhile but was worth it!

Also replaced Guardian with Shielding Hands which is also providing better damage protection as well.

I have all of the campaigns so if you guys can think of even better skills to swap in let me know...

But even how I have it now I am easily soloing trolls. But then again, they are just trolls...
